– There is a need for more consensus, what is the nursing assistant's role, what is the assistant nurse's role, what can others do? It looks different in different places, says Carina Melander, chief safety representative for the Municipal Health and Social Care Section in Sundsvall for 15 years.
She believes that new tasks are added without any being removed, which means that the staff cannot keep up."We have calculated that there may be about thirty peripheral tasks such as cleaning and orders.

She defines peripheral information as something that does not involve direct contact with the care recipients.
– It can be about food orders, cleaning, laundry and documentation. At one workplace, a colleague has calculated that the pesonal cleans 3000 hours a year. Is that what a nursing professional should do?

She believes that the employer needs to secure the skills of the employees but also secure and control the work environment.
– What kind of incident do we have? There is a need to systematically assess the workplace. It is the employer's responsibility to ensure that you have time, otherwise it will lead to sick leave or resignation. Something has to be done here and now. You can't wait.
