The first unit of the largest hydropower station under construction in the upper reaches of the Yellow River in China is connected to the grid to generate electricity. The total installed capacity of the Maldao Hydropower Station is 2.32 million kilowatts.

All units of the project will be put into production by the end of 2024. The average annual power generation is expected to reach 7.304 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the electricity demand of 1.825 million households. It can save about 2.2 million tons of standard coal every year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8.16 billion tons.
