The largest treatment plant in the municipality is located in Åre, Vikverket, and it is heavily loaded. Until capacity is improved, the number of beds in Åredalen cannot be increased by more than 30 percent. Now they are looking at which detailed plans should be prioritized:

"We need to make short-term solutions to catch up with the neglected maintenance, but we also need to investigate whether we should have so many facilities in the municipality. Maybe it's better to build new and bigger and pull them together so that there are fewer, says Daniel Danielsson (C), chairman of the municipal executive board in Åre municipality.

Have made several investments

In Storvallen, just outside Storlien, a completely new treatment plant is currently being built and a new one is also being built in Bydalen. Measures have also been taken in Undersåker and Hallen:

"On Friday, we will make a decision on an investment in the wastewater treatment plant in Mörsil," says Daniel Danielsson.

Will cost 1 billion

"If we take five years back and five years ahead, we probably need to spend up to a billion kronor. We will need to borrow money for this, but the VA tariff will probably need to be raised in the future, he says.
