The arrest of a person in Granadilla (Tenerife) has unleashed controversy on social networks, since the national police shot three dogs of potentially dangerous breed that, in defense of their owner, attacked the agents.

According to sources from the Provincial Police Station, three policemen were injured in the operation and the dogs were transferred to the veterinarian after being hit in non-vital areas.

In the video broadcast on Twitter, two dogs are seen attacking one of the agents. The man tries to defend himself with a stick, but falls to the ground. At that moment, one of his companions draws his gun and shoots the animals. Subsequently, the injured dogs approach the detainee, who is guarded by another policeman.

The capture has occurred in the framework of an anti-drug operation directed by the Court of Instruction 4 of Granadilla and in which there are eight detainees.

The controversy has caused the PACMA Animalist Party to denounce the actions of the National Police agents. The spokeswoman for the political formation, Yolanda Morales, has affirmed that she understands the "delicate situation" for the National Police but maintains that "they are not the ways" to act in an arrest so she points out that "action protocols for the security forces are urgent" in this type of situation so that they can be addressed "with common sense" and not "shooting".

In this line, it requests the use of other non-lethal control systems to avoid seriously injuring or killing animals whose reaction is "normal and predictable" in this context.
