The announcement followed Biden's admission Thursday morning that a document containing classified information from his time as vice president was found in his personal library, along with other documents found in his garage.

McCarthy: Must be investigated

Earlier on Thursday, Biden said he is "cooperating fully" with the Justice Department investigation.

He also confirmed that it was lawyers who found the documents in the residence.

House Speaker-elect Republican Kevin McCarty quickly declared after the findings of the new classified documents were confirmed Thursday that "Congress needs to investigate this."

The Department of Justice has been investigating how Biden's representative, Donald Trump, handled sensitive documents.
