The French Secretary of State, in charge of Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, visiting Ouagadougou, discussed with the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The discussions focused on the new format of the partnership between the two countries, above all, the expectations of the Burkinabè authorities and with full respect for the sovereignty of Burkina Faso.

The Secretary of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships came to Ouagadougou to listen to the expectations of the new authorities and discuss the new direction of the partnership between the two countries.

But Chrysoula Zacharopoulou insisted that her country does not intend to impose anything on Burkina Faso.

I came to convey a clear message, that of constancy, of my country's commitment.

France remains committed on all levels

: humanitarian, security and development plans to the degree and in the forms that Burkinabe austerity will desire.

We have agreed with President Traoré to move forward together in this state of mind.

On the security level, she underlined that it is no longer a question for France of fighting terrorism in place of their partners, but of doing so with them, at their request, by supporting their strategy.

In this sense, the French special forces will remain in Burkina Faso as long as their presence is desired by the new authorities.
