McCarthy tries to persuade and promise concessions to reach the Speaker's podium.

Before the twelfth vote, he brought with him another 14 republican rebels.

Attempts at persuasion continued throughout Friday.

But apparently in vain.

McCarthy did not receive the necessary 218 votes on either the 12th or 13th ballot.

Then the House of Representatives decided to adjourn until Saturday morning (10 p.m. US time on the East Coast).

Extensive concessions

Ahead of the twelfth vote, McCarthy had already promised to return to an old House rule that one member's demand is enough for a vote of no confidence to be carried out.

It was uncertain what further concessions and promises he offered ahead of the thirteenth vote.

Immediately, negotiations began for a 14th vote.

But McCarthy, who would become a guide for the party's future direction, met the breakaways in the party on several issues - and in addition undermined the speaker's position, AP writes.

Rarely has the U.S. House of Representatives seen such political chaos and fiasco played out in front of the curtain – even though Congress in Washington DC is known for hard-hitting.

Sargat party

Usually, the election is celebrated with the speaker's closest relatives in place in the chamber after an almost ceremonial vote.

Not this time.

The twelve polls so far show a bitter party where former President Donald Trump's supporters damaged the Republicans in front of a surprised, puzzled and slightly amused electorate.

The breakaway group is too small to be able to choose its own candidate, but since the Republicans hold a narrow majority in the House, they are enough to stop McCarthy.

Republican Matt Gaetz has vocally led the opposition to McCarthy, but when he launched into new tirades during the debate before the vote, several party members chose to leave the chamber in protest.
