The President's office reaffirmed today (3rd) that "South Korea and the United States are discussing information sharing, joint planning, and joint execution plans for the operation of US-owned nuclear power assets to respond to North Korea's nuclear weapons."

In a written briefing today, Kim Eun-hye, chief public relations officer, made this remark regarding the response of US President Joe Biden at the White House to a reporter's question, "Are you discussing a joint nuclear exercise with South Korea?"

Chief Kim said, “Today, President Biden’s remarks were reaped by a Reuters reporter and asked’whether they are discussing joint nuclear exercises’, so of course I had no choice but to answer no.”

"Joint nuclear exercise is a possible term among nuclear powers," he added.

It is interpreted as meaning that South Korea does not possess nuclear weapons, so it cannot apply nuclear war exercises itself.

Earlier, in a press interview yesterday, President Yoon Seok-yeol said, "We are discussing the concept of joint planning and joint exercises with the United States for nuclear weapons to effectively deter expansion, and the United States is also quite positive."

Joint planning and joint exercises for the operation of nuclear forces were agreed upon at the 54th ROK-US Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) held in the United States in November of last year in the presence of the South Korean and US defense ministers.
