The production of combat vehicles of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) "Tornado-G" and "Tornado-S" increased several times compared to the same period last year.

This was stated to journalists in the press service of Rostec.

The production of this equipment is deployed at Motovilikhinskiye Zavody PJSC (Perm).

Now the enterprise, which is part of the state corporation Rostec, works in three shifts.

“The production of combat vehicles from the Tornado-G and Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems has increased significantly compared to last year and has reached volumes that have not been seen for the past ten years,” the state corporation said.

Recall that at present, on the basis of PJSC "Motovilikhinskiye Zavody", a separate subdivision of the Tula NPO "Splav" im.

A.N.

Ganichev (under the control of the Technodinamika holding).

Splav is the main developer of all MLRS operated by the Russian army.

Combat and transport-loading vehicles for multiple launch rocket systems are manufactured at the facilities of Motovilikhinskiye Zavody PJSC.

Recently, the production sites of the Perm company are undergoing modernization.

Experts interviewed by RT associate the increase in the pace of production of Tornado-G and Tornado-S with the course to increase the size of the Russian Armed Forces and the high efficiency that such equipment has shown in armed conflicts of recent years, including a special operation.

Tornado-G and Tornado-S are effective and relatively easy-to-use weapons.

But, as I think, there are not as many of these MLRS in the troops as we would like.

In addition, the size of our army will increase significantly.

She needs more of this equipment, ”said military observer Sergei Ishchenko in an interview with RT.

The fruits of modernization

"Tornado-G" is a deeply modernized version of the world-famous Soviet machine "Grad".

This MLRS is made in caliber 122 mm.

The Grad complex was adopted by the Soviet army in 1963 and still has not lost its relevance in armed conflicts of various types.

The Tornado-G system, like its Soviet predecessor, is designed to strike at armored vehicles, manpower, firing points, air defense units and other enemy military infrastructure.

The launch of one ammunition load is capable of covering an area equal to 30 football fields with fire.

The modern modification of the Grad is mounted on the Ural-4320 chassis.

The advantages of the "Tornado-G" of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation include increased firing efficiency, increased firepower of ammunition, automated means of guidance, aiming, topographic location and navigation.

“Modern means of communication are installed in the combat vehicle, which allow for uninterrupted and secure radio exchange with the combat control vehicle,” the materials of the Russian military department say.

According to the estimates of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the combat effectiveness of the Tornado-G is 2.5-3 times higher than that of the Grad.

In many ways, this figure was achieved through the creation of new ammunition.

Now, out of 40 guides, the complex is capable of firing at 40 km, which is twice the range of the Soviet machine.

The time for a full salvo is 20 seconds, and it takes about six minutes to reload.

In particular, targets at a distance of 40 km can be hit by a 9M521 unguided rocket with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead of increased power.

Another ammunition - 9M522 with a detachable high-explosive fragmentation warhead - is capable of hitting enemy positions at a distance of 37.5 km.

Also, the Tornado-G arsenal includes 9M217 projectiles with self-aiming submunitions, 9M218 missiles with cumulative fragmentation submunitions and 9M28F high-explosive fragmentation ammunition.

In the future, specialists from NPO Splav are planning to create guided weapons for their offspring.

From the information of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it follows that during the special operation, the crews of the Tornado-G strike at the enemy at any time of the day.

UAVs are widely used for target detection and fire adjustment.

Drones also help to objectively assess the damage caused to the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In order not to fall under enemy fire, the crews of the improved Grads try to shoot back as quickly as possible and leave the position.

Then the servicemen are sent back to the deployment point, where they replenish the stock of shells.

"Tornado-S" is another type of MLRS, which has now begun to be mass-produced at Motovilikha Plants.

The system is a deeply modernized version of the Smerch complex, which was put into service in 1987.

Like its predecessor, "Tornado-S" has 12 rails for 300-mm missiles.

At the same time, the system is capable of hitting targets at a significantly greater range than the Smerch: 120 km versus 70-90 km.

"Tornado-S" is designed to destroy individual and area targets.

Each ammunition of this MLRS can receive an individual flight mission and use the capabilities of the GLONASS navigation system, which significantly increases the accuracy of the strike.

The amount of scattering of Tornado-S missiles when firing at an area object is programmed during a salvo, experts say.

According to Motovilikha Plants, a full salvo of Tornado-S is commensurate in destructive power with nuclear weapons.

It covers an area of 67.6 hectares, bringing down several tons of explosives on enemy targets.

It follows from open information that the Tornado-S arsenal includes 9M544 and 9M549 guided projectiles with a range of 120 km.

Both missiles are designed to destroy military equipment, infantry, artillery, logistics and supply facilities, air defense and electronic warfare (EW).

The main difference between them is the number of combat elements.

The 9M544 projectile will count 552 combat elements, and the 9M549 ammunition - 72.

According to Russian media, in the near future, the Tornado-S system should receive new ammunition.

According to a RIA Novosti source in the military-industrial complex, a high-precision guided missile with a homing head will be developed for the MLRS.

Also, for Tornado-S, Russian specialists will create ammunition, inside of which a special disposable drone will be placed.

This was reported by Izvestia in early September.

The drone will become a carrier of jamming equipment.

It is assumed that for a certain time he will be able to jam communications and enemy radars.

A projectile with such an UAV is designed to become an effective means of countering enemy artillery and air defense.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Tornado-S is currently being equipped with an automated guidance and fire control system.

It allows you to simultaneously control the firing of the division, calculate data on the target and "direct packs of directing combat vehicles in the horizontal and vertical planes."

“The use of the new system significantly increased the accuracy of fire and reduced the time it took to deploy the complex from traveling to combat,” the military department said.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Tornado-S is significantly superior in combat effectiveness to the Smerch.

In addition to modern automation equipment and a GLONASS navigator, this MLRS has new information transmission systems and a computerized ballistic computer.

"Software and hardware tools" Tornado-S "allow you to exchange information automatically with a high level of protection against interception, display and store the information received, navigate the terrain offline using an electronic map, as well as direct and launch missiles without the need to leave the cockpit ," the agency's website says.

Along the front and near rear

As Sergei Ishchenko noted, the Tornado-G and Tornado-S MLRS have outstanding combat effectiveness characteristics.

According to the expert, in the course of the special operation, domestic systems proved their ability to almost certainly hit the objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Due to the enemy’s air defense systems, the Russian army uses aviation to a very limited extent along the front line and near rear.

The main volume of such work is performed by artillery, including multiple rocket launchers.

They are able to strike unexpected blows for the enemy and quickly leave the firing line, avoiding return fire, ”Ishchenko said.

At the same time, according to the expert, the experience of using Tornado-G and Tornado-S dictates the need to integrate MLRS into the reconnaissance-strike complex (RUK).

“We are talking about a single circuit, within which the transfer of information from reconnaissance means to means of destruction is very well established.

This level of interaction will make it possible to strike in the shortest possible time from the moment the target is detected, ”Ishchenko explained.

A similar point of view is shared by a military expert, retired colonel Anatoly Matviychuk.

In a RT commentary, he stated that it was the RUK that would make it possible to fully reveal the combat potential of Tornado-G and Tornado-S.

“In my opinion, it is necessary to continue to improve our MLRS with an emphasis on automation of control and accuracy of destruction.

This is achievable with the advent of new targeting systems associated with aviation and satellites, ”summed up Matviychuk.
