In the midst of the energy crisis in Europe, the Russian company Gazprom suspended its deliveries of natural gas to Italy on Saturday, announced the Italian multinational ENI, the main importer of gas in Italy.

According to Gazprom, this stoppage of deliveries is due to administrative problems in Austria, through which passes the gas intended for Italy.

In Rome, the leaders of the ENI are in contact with Gazprom to try to remedy this cut.

But we cannot exclude that this sudden delivery failure could last.

A year ago, the closing of the Russian gas tap would have had dramatic consequences for the Italian economy.

The country was then dependent on Russian gas for 40% of its consumption.

Since the war in Ukraine, the situation has changed a lot.

Italy now buys less than 10% of its gas from Russia.

It has stepped up its purchases from the Nordic countries and found new suppliers, such as Algeria or Azerbaijan, for example.

She has a quarter of her winter consumption in stock.

There remains the problem of the price of energy, of European solidarity which is long overdue in the crisis.

A challenge that has now become the absolute priority of all Italian politicians.
