The United Nations has designated September 26 as the ``International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons,'' and a meeting was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York with senior officials from various countries.

In his speech, Secretary-General Guterres mentioned that he visited the city of Hiroshima last month to coincide with the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and met with the atomic bomb survivors. The abolition of nuclear weapons is the greatest gift we can give to future generations."



On top of that, with Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterating his readiness to use nuclear forces, and bearing in mind the increasing nuclear threat, he said, "The era of nuclear threats must come to an end.
