"From Monday, reservations will start in the regions for updated boosters" of the anti-Covid vaccine.

This was announced by the general director of the Italian drug agency Nicola Magrini, during the press conference on the update of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19.

"The recommendation of the health institutions is to give further continuity to the vaccination campaign" said Franco Locatelli, president of the Higher Health Council, during the press conference.

The updated vaccines have been shown to be able to "generate an antibody response against the Omicron Ba4 and 5 variants which are the prevalent ones".

They represent "96% of all strains so far isolated in Italy".

Locatelli pointed out that vaccines "have been a triumph of science and medicine" and "have saved millions of lives".

"19 million doses of bivalent vaccine" announced Locatelli are coming for September.

To date, Italy has donated "58 million doses of the vaccine" Covid-19.

"Of these, 53 million were donated to WHO's Covax program," he added.
