A minibus and two trucks collided near the village of Nikolayevka in the Russian region of Ulyanovsk, killing 15 people.

All the victims were of Kazakh nationality.

Three other people were hospitalized in serious condition, regional governor Alexei Rousskikh wrote on Telegram. 

15 people were killed in a collision between a minibus and two trucks in the Russian region of Ulyanovsk (Volga) on Sunday, Russian news agencies reported.

According to witnesses quoted by the agencies, a truck went out of its lane when it collided with a minibus which was traveling in the opposite direction, near the village of Nikolayevka.

At the time of the accident, the minibus was also hit in the rear by another truck.

According to images broadcast by the Russian television channel Ren TV, the minibus found itself almost completely flattened by the two trucks.

The accident killed 15 people, all Kazakh citizens, the emergency services quoted by the Russian public agency Ria Novosti said.

Frequent accidents in Russia

Three other people - two men and a woman - were hospitalized in serious condition, the governor of the Ulyanovsk region, Alexei Rousskikh, wrote on Telegram.

Violations of road safety rules are common in Russia, where several deadly bus accidents have occurred in recent years.

In January, five people were killed and 21 injured in a bus crash in the Ryazan region, about 270 km south of Moscow.

In December 2019, a bus with around 40 passengers on board fell into a frozen river in the Zabaykalsk region of Siberia, killing 19 and injuring 21.
