According to him, EU states are responsible for examining visa applications on an individual basis and for issuing visas.

“Similarly, only member states can restrict the issuance of visas.

However, there will always be categories of people to whom visas should be issued - for example, in humanitarian cases, for family members, for journalists or dissidents, ”said the EC representative.

From August 18, the Estonian authorities imposed restrictions on the issuance of visas to Russians and stopped letting Russian citizens with issued Schengen visas into the territory of the republic.

The press service of the Estonian government said that Russians will not be able to enter the country on issued visas if the purpose of the trip is tourism, business, sports or culture.
