The police of Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme) carried out the kidnapping of 18 dogs and a cat from a pet-sitter this Saturday.

They had been called for a distressed dog locked in a car.

Officials were then alerted by noises in the neighboring house, says France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

There they found that 17 other dogs were locked in cages.

The animals were properly fed and watered, but the police judged that the premises were not sufficiently maintained to allow the keeping of animals.

The animal protection association of Gerzat (Puy-de-Dôme) then took charge of the dogs and the cat.

Eight euros per day of childcare costs

Most of their owners have been contacted.

Shocked, the latter cut short their vacation to recover their companions.

The manager, who offered to keep the animals for 8 euros a day, was taken into custody.

She and her spouse were summoned to court in March 2023.
