The Parliamentary Left (PL) in the SPD parliamentary group rejects the tax plans of Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP).

“Christian Lindner wants to reduce cold progression and also relieve high incomes.

We don't see any scope for that," said Wiebke Esdar, spokeswoman for the PL, of the FAZ

“For us, on the other hand, it is more important to relieve people with small and medium-sized incomes.

This can be financed through additional income such as a wealth levy or an excess profit tax, or by suspending the debt brake.”

In any case, the Parliamentary Left wants to send a signal "that the burdens and relief will be distributed equally".

The PL is the largest structure in the SPD parliamentary group.

Esdar leads them together with MPs Matthias Miersch and Sönke Rix.

"Different understanding of sound politics"

The FDP, on the other hand, is resisting the softening of the debt brake.

His party is fighting to ensure that not only ecological and social sustainability is considered, but also economic and financial ones, said the FDP MP and Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Michael Theurer, the FAZ.

"Especially in view of the unspeakable debates about relaxing the debt brake, this is urgently needed," added Theurer, criticizing the traffic light partners SPD and Greens.

"It was always clear that our coalition partners have a different understanding of solid budgetary policy than the FDP and are therefore not dependent on the debt brake."
