The TBE virus infection, which is spread from ticks, has increased sharply in Sweden in recent years.

In 2021, the number of infections broke records.

- It seems that more people have been out in nature, which of course can affect the increase in cases of infection.

It may also be the case that during the pandemic there were many vaccines at once and therefore fewer vaccines were taken against TBE, says Helena Hervius Askling.

There are no statistics on the number of people who have taken the TBE vaccine in Sweden.

Helena Hervius Askling, however, hopes that Sweden will have a national vaccination register, from which the number of TBE vaccinated could be followed up better in the future.

- To be able to follow the development of the disease and give good advice, we need to know how many have been vaccinated.

Data on the number of TBE infections for 2022 will be published later this year.

In the video above, Helena Hervius Askling explains who can get serious symptoms of TBE and how best to avoid infection.
