- The union and the bus drivers want the inspectors to travel properly on the heavy lines, all the way and not halfway - it is not efficient, says Jafar Sarehkhani, Kommunal's safety representative at Gamla Uppsala buss (GUB).

When a passenger gets on without a valid ticket and does not pay, it results in a press of the "unpaid" button, which was installed in October last year.

Most button presses take place on the so-called heavy lines, Region Uppsala's own statistics show.

Line 3 has topped the list of most pressures every month since last autumn and then follows lines 5, 7, 4 and 1. These are lines with many passengers and where drivers more often experience problems with passengers.

From criticism from the drivers

And Jafar Sarehkhani is not alone in having views on the work of ticket inspectors.

SVT Nyheter has spoken to just over a dozen bus drivers who unanimously say that the inspectors are seen too rarely, or not at all, on certain lines.

- They say that they do not dare to go all the way to Gottsunda, but I am expected to drive here alone in the middle of the night, says a driver who wishes to remain anonymous.

Another would like to see more civilian inspectors.

- When they get in their yellow vests, half go off and tan.

A third driver calls for better cooperation.

- It can be hard when school children lie to us right in the face, or drive with us.

Every now and then we would need stronger support.

"We are satisfied"

Nikodemus Kyhlén is marketing manager at UL and regrets that the drivers are not satisfied.

- We may review the situation, but we are satisfied with how the contracting company performs the controls, he says.

Robin Melander, regional manager at Avarn security, which carries out the inspections, replies in an email that it is UL that decides where inspections are to be carried out.
