53 killed, 53 injured in train collision and derailment in Missouri

Three people were killed and at least 50 others were injured when an Amtrak train derailed in northern Missouri yesterday after colliding with a truck at a crossing.

Amtrak said the train, which was traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago and carrying about 243 passengers and about 10 crew members, collided with the truck at a crossing near Mindon, Missouri, derailing eight coaches and two locomotives.

Officials said that dozens of wounded people from the site of the accident began to flow to local hospitals, and some of them were airlifted in critical condition.
