According to the documents, Ignat Sergeevich was born in the village of Vilyakhovka (Belarusian SSR, Mogilev region, Bykhov district).

In the spring of 1942, he began to help the partisans, and from December 10, 1943 to February 28, 1944, he served in partisan detachment No. 810 of the Belarusian headquarters of the partisan movement.

In December 1944, he was officially drafted into the Red Army and sent to the 251st Reserve Rifle Regiment, where he served as a rifleman, and on a combat mission came under fire and was seriously wounded.
