The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, was infected with the Covid-19 virus, according to what his doctor announced, Thursday, noting that this infection came "without symptoms."

"His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, was exposed to the new Corona virus, Covid-19, without symptoms," the king's doctor, Professor El Hassan Belimni, said in a statement.

He described "a period of rest for His Majesty for a few days," according to the brief statement published by the Moroccan News Agency.

The health of the 58-year-old king is of great interest in Morocco.

And the official media had broadcast that he had received the first dose of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine, on the occasion of the opening of the vaccination campaign in early 2021.

The Moroccan monarch had a successful heart surgery at the Royal Palace Clinic in Rabat in June 2020, after a similar operation in Paris in February 2018.

Mohammed VI has held the throne since July 1999, after the death of his father, King Hassan II.
