“If they make this strategic mistake, then we will sort it out,” he told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of SPIEF.

The diplomat also stressed that the seventh package "can only be gas" because "nothing else is left."

“They are not ready for gas yet.

This means that talks about the seventh package are somewhat premature,” Chizhov said.

Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Pavel Yablonsky said that the EU authorities had begun work on the seventh package of anti-Russian sanctions.

The sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia was finally approved on 3 June.
