In Thailand, a former police officer has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder under torture of a defendant.

Police officer Thitisan Utthanaporn, nicknamed "Joe Ferrari", because of his immoderate taste for luxury cars, a former police station chief in Nakhon Sawan, a city north of Bangkok, was first sentenced to death , along with five police officers from his team, for the murder of a suspect in a drug trafficking case.
Their sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, because the Court took into account their confessions, the fact that they had tried to resuscitate their victim after his death and that they had paid financial compensation to the victim's family.
Luxury cars and a villa seized during the arrest of “Joe Ferrari”
Filmed on August 5, 2021 by a CCTV camera while questioning the suspect, the six officers had placed several plastic bags over the inmate's head before tying his hands behind his back.
He ended up suffocating.
The video had been released to Thai media by a junior policeman from the police station.
During the arrest of “Joe Ferrari”, the investigators had also seized several luxury cars, cash and a villa in the suburbs of Bangkok, property impossible to acquire with the salary of a police officer in Thailand.
A satisfactory verdict for many Thais who believe that the police rarely pay for their crimes in the country.
