The Executive Director of the Specialized Care Sector at the Dubai Health Authority, Ahmed bin Kalban, said that dialysis services in the emirate have witnessed an exceptional leap in recent months, after the establishment of two specialized centers in Al Barsha and Al Twar, with international specifications and standards.

Bin Kalban explained to "Emirates Today" that the two centers were established with a large capacity, to quickly meet the appointments and facilitate the customer's journey, noting that the two centers were equipped with the latest equipment in the world, in addition to specialized high-level medical cadres.

He stated that the establishment of the two centers comes in line with the strategic objectives of the authority, and the Dubai Plan 2021, which is based on meeting the needs and expectations of customers, and achieving a healthier and happier society. Kidney failure due to the high incidence of diabetes, which affects more than 11% of the country’s population, according to 2019 statistics.

The Emirates Medical Association estimated the number of patients with kidney failure in the country at about 2,785 patients, and the number of patients in the Emirate of Dubai reached more than 1,000 patients, and the number of patients in Dubai Hospital was 240 patients until December 2020, and the patient needs 576 hours annually, at a rate of four hours per session, with three sessions Weekly.

Bin Kalban said that the dialysis centers in Al Barsha and Al Tawar receive stable and transferred disease cases from the authority’s hospitals, and from the private sector, and provide services in accordance with medical protocols and procedures through specialized health and administrative cadres after studying them and the approval of the treating doctor in the hospital and transferring them with a modern integrated medical report, and there is follow-up It is joint by the authority and the company operating the medical performance indicators for these patients. As for emergency or unstable cases, they are treated in hospitals and transferred to centers when these cases are stable.

He stressed that the new centers provide medical and preventive services for dialysis patients with international quality standards, including hemodialysis services, and specialized clinics such as “diabetes clinic, hypertension clinic, vascular clinic to prepare for the blood connection for dialysis, health education, a clinic for rehabilitating kidney patients before dialysis, a laboratory, a pharmacy and a clinic.” Nutrition and hospitality consultant.

He pointed out that there is a joint committee between the authority and Mediclinic Foundation to supervise and follow up performance in terms of medical, financial, quality, satisfaction and happiness of customers.

With regard to the patient’s journey within the centers, Bin Kalban explained that it includes receiving the patient, medical and nursing evaluation, treatment session and follow-up by the nursing staff, follow-up every half hour, social support and nutrition, then doctor’s evaluation, and then returning home and delivering medicines to the house, The journey of the new customer is four and a half hours, while the journey of the permanent customer is four hours.

He pointed out that the two centers include 100 beds for patients with renal failure, each bed serves three patients per day, while each center receives between (60-70) patients per day, and work is underway to increase the number of patients transferred from Dubai Hospital and the private sector, according to the plan established to increase bed capacity. .

He continued, "The center provides its services to citizens and residents transferred from the Health Authority, as well as from the private sector and medical tourism patients. The center also serves all health insurance companies."

He added: "The center is currently receiving patients who have the unified government insurance program (Enaya) and insurance programs for private companies, and the financial cost has been supported and covered by the authority for patients registered in Dubai Hospital, who do not have insurance programs from Dubai citizens."

Regarding the number of patients included in the center’s humanitarian services office, Bin Kalban explained that Al Tawar Center receives patients from charitable societies (Dar Al Ber Society - Dubai Charitable Society - Beit Al Khair Society) in coordination with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, with a capacity that represents 30% of the center’s family, according to laid plan.
