This week came the news that Klarna will cut ten percent of the workforce, around 700 jobs.

The quarterly report released the same evening showed a loss before tax of just over SEK 2.5 billion for the first quarter of 2022.

Klarna's CEO, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, who visited SVT's Morgonstudion on Friday, says that it is the short - sightedness of investors that has led to the situation.

- In the long term, the opportunities are as great as they were for Klarna six months ago.

But now there is a nervousness among investors, that you become much more short-term, and then we are forced to adapt accordingly.

Criticism of the process

The message to the staff was announced via a pre-recorded message.

The union was not informed in advance and the Union has criticized Klarna's managers for how the cuts were made.

Sebastian Siemiatkowski says in Morgonstudion that it was both difficult and difficult, but also that they want to keep the process short for the sake of the employees.

- It has been our main focus to leave the message as soon as we can in as good a way as we can.
