China: The United States is "playing with fire" in the Taiwan file

China's State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said Monday that the United States was "playing with fire", the official Xinhua news agency reported, after US President Joe Biden stressed that his country was ready to defend the island militarily against any Chinese invasion.

The United States "is using the Taiwan card to contain China and it will burn itself out," said Zhou Fenglian, a spokesman for the council, which is often considered to be the Chinese government.
