Mexico remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists

Today, May 3, is the 29th World Press Freedom Day.
In Mexico, eight journalists have already been assassinated since the beginning of the year.
The country ranks 143rd out of 180 in terms of freedom of the press, according to the Reporters Without Borders ranking.
It is considered one of the most dangerous in the world for the press outside the conflict zone.

The latest victim
, Armando Linares, director of an online newspaper, was shot and killed at his home in the state of Michoacán in mid-March.
In Mexico, the beginning of the year was marked by a veritable bloodbath within the press.
Many professionals evolve in a difficult context.
In the country, these murders took place mainly against local journalists.
The latter are particularly vulnerable, as they are subject to both pressure and threats from the various criminal groups present on the territory, but also from corrupt policies and institutions within the States.
Crimes without culprits
Everything takes place with almost total impunity.
More than 90% of these crimes remain without culprit and without any sentence of justice being pronounced.
Press organizations in Mexico criticize the government for its inaction and manifest ineffectiveness in protecting journalists.
Indeed, several of the victims were killed when they knew they were threatened and benefited from a federal protection system.
A total of 46 journalists worldwide were killed last year in 2021. Another 478 are imprisoned worldwide to date.
The press situation is fragile in some parts of the world.
