The widow and a 28-year-old man were arrested by Solna District Court on Friday.

Both deny the crime.

The 56-year-old woman was arrested for three cases of human trafficking, two cases of forced marriage and one case of aiding and abetting rape of children committed in Syria.

Some of the suspected crimes date back to 2012.

The detention protocol also states that "the suspicion of aiding and abetting rape of a child also covers acts committed in Sweden".

30 years in terrorist circles

The 56-year-old has been in terrorist circles for almost 30 years, according to Magnus Ranstorp, research leader at the Center for Asymmetric Threat and Terrorism Studies.

- She is the woman in this environment who is perhaps most exalted.

Of all the women in Sweden, she has the highest status, he says.

The 56-year-old was previously married to al-Qaeda's Iraqi second in line to be killed in fighting in 2008.

- He was the spider in the web.

Of all the terrorists who have ever been to Sweden, he is the one who has the most blood on his hands, says Magnus Ranstorp.

The son was killed in battle

According to documents in Swedish court, the woman and the family are known by Säpo as active in pro-violence extremism.

The woman's sons have also participated and one has been killed in combat, according to court documents.

In 2020, the widow's 17-year-old daughter was taken into care, according to LVU.

The year before, the girl's school had submitted a report of concern when they feared that she would marry off an elderly man in Syria.

The girl's sister has also said that she was divorced twice as a minor.

Information that corresponds with information provided by Säpo.

In the investigation, the woman says that she had no knowledge of her husband's activities.

The woman believes that both she and her daughter have been treated as if they have connections to violent groups.

The court sees it as unlikely that the 56-year-old was unaware.

The husband had been suspected of terrorist acts since at least the year 2000 and then the couple lived together.

According to Säpo, they were in Afghanistan together that year and were linked to al-Qaeda.

Reports of concern from Säpo

Säpo has also made several reports of concern regarding the family.

The prosecutor does not want to say what led to the 56-year-old and the 28-year-old being detained.

- I can only confirm that this is the case and I can confirm that the district court has arrested, says prosecutor Karolina Wieslander.
