A 36-year-old woman appeared on Tuesday before the Avignon Criminal Court (Vaucluse), to explain facts dating back to December 2016. Her eight-month-old son had almost died of an overdose after ingesting a pill containing of morphine, reports Le Dauphiné Libéré.

She had called the fire department, noting that her son was not waking up.

The mother has always assured that it was not an intentional act.

However, for the experts, the drug could not be ingested alone by the child, without water, cough or vomiting.

It also could not have been swallowed more than three hours before, as she claims.

Decision on April 27

The mother of the family no longer has custody of her son since the facts.

The deputy prosecutor of the Republic requested against him three years in prison accompanied by a probationary sentence, an obligation of care and compensation.

The court is expected to render its decision on April 27, 2022.
