Pakistan on Saturday requested a joint investigation into a missile launch on its soil from India and rejected New Delhi's decision to conduct an internal investigation into the incident, calling on the international community to play a role in the issue.
"Such a serious matter cannot be addressed with the superficial explanation given by the Indian authorities," the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"Pakistan is requesting a joint investigation in order to accurately arrive at the facts surrounding the incident," she added.
India said - on Friday - that it fired the missile at Pakistan by mistake last week, citing a "technical malfunction" during the missile's regular maintenance.
New Delhi offered this explanation after it warned Pakistan of "bad consequences".
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry statement said that the international community should play "the role assigned to it in stabilizing a nuclear environment", warning of "serious consequences" if a misunderstanding by either side leads to an escalation.
Previously, military experts warned of the risk of accidents or miscalculation from any of the two nuclear-armed neighbors who fought three wars, and had lesser armed clashes between them, usually due to the dispute over the divided region of Kashmir.
