Today, Thursday, the Sudanese Doctors Committee announced the death of two people, one of whom was killed in demonstrations in the Berri neighborhood, east of the capital, Khartoum, after he was shot by live bullets from the security forces, while the head of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, called for working together to get Sudan out of the cycle of violence.

The (non-governmental) committee indicated in a statement that there were a number of injuries with live bullets in the city of Khartoum and Omdurman, west of the capital.

She stated that the number of victims of the protests had risen to 87 since last October 25, at a time when the authorities did not issue any comment in this regard.

Earlier today, the Sudanese Doctors Committee announced the death of one person and the injury of about 20 people in demonstrations in the city of Omdurman, west of Khartoum.

The Coordination of the Khartoum Resistance Committees (activists) had called for a sit-in today, in a number of areas of the capital, as part of its mass movement demanding full civilian rule.

Today, the President of the Sovereignty Council called for working together to find solutions that would lead the country out of the cycle of violence and discord, and to avoid the pitfalls of deviation from peace.

In return for accusations of carrying out a military coup, Al-Burhan said that he took measures last October 25 to correct the course of the transitional phase, pledging to hand over power either through elections or a national consensus.

"Freedom and Change" welcomes the UN-African coordination

On the other hand, the Forces for Freedom and Change (formerly the ruling coalition) announced - on Thursday - welcoming coordination between the United Nations and the African Union, to solve the current political crisis in the country.

This came during a meeting of a delegation from the Forces of Freedom and Change, with the head of the UN mission in Sudan, Volker Peretz, and the envoy of the African Union, Mohamed El Hassan Ould Labat, in Khartoum.

A statement by the Forces of Freedom and Change welcomed the coordination and complementarity of roles between the African Union and the United Nations Integrated Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) in order to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

The statement clarified that any political process must achieve the goals of the revolution and the demands of the street, and begin with abolishing the state of emergency, ending violence and releasing all detainees to create a climate for the political process.

Earlier today, the head of the UN mission and the envoy of the African Union called, at a joint conference in Khartoum, to create an atmosphere for a dialogue to ensure Sudan's exit from its crisis.

On August 21, 2019, Sudan began a transitional phase that ends with holding elections in early 2024, during which power is shared by the army, civilian forces and armed movements that signed a general peace agreement with the government.

Since October 25, 2021, the country has witnessed a political crisis and protests rejecting exceptional measures taken by Al-Burhan, most notably the imposition of a state of emergency and the dissolution of the Sovereignty Councils and the Transitional Ministers, which political forces consider a military coup, in exchange for the army's denial.
