The Assize Court of Pyrénées-Orientales increased the sentence imposed on Mohamed Guendouz on appeal on Monday evening.
He was sentenced to 28 years' imprisonment, including 18 years of security, for the assassination of Joaquim Tougeron, committed in 2017 in Montpellier.
During his first trial in February 2021, the jurors of the Hérault Assize Court had sentenced him to 25 years of criminal imprisonment.
Deeming this sentence too heavy, he appealed against this verdict.
He had gone home to retrieve a knife
The facts took place on November 2, 2017, in the center of Montpellier.
While Joaquim Tougeron had argued with his girlfriend, Mohamed Guendouz got involved for the first time.
He then went home to grab a knife and struck the 20-year-old geography student several times.
One of which in the heart.
This attack had caused a deep stir in the city.
In Perpignan, the accused attempted to explain that he had no intention of killing the victim.
A version that did not convince the popular jury.
