“It is with regret that we have decided to temporarily close our stores in Russia and to pause all our commercial activities from the evening of March 4,” writes the French group on its LinkedIn page.
"We will continue to support our teams on site."
The group has three stores in Russia, including one in the famous Goum shopping mall on Red Square, and employs around 60 people in the country.
When publishing its results on February 18, Hermès also indicated that it planned to open a store in Saint Petersburg in 2022. It is now "postponed indefinitely", he told AFP on Friday.
Several international companies have already announced the suspension of their activity in the country, in particular the Swedish furniture giant Ikea, which explained to AFP on Thursday that "war has an enormous human impact and is also reflected in serious disruptions of the chain of production and trade".
Among the other groups which suspend their activity in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, include that of microprocessors Intel, the platform of tourist rentals Airbnb, the oil company ExxonMobil or even Apple, Boeing and Ford.
