Queen Elizabeth cancels virtual meeting as mild Covid symptoms persist

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said Britain's Queen Elizabeth will not attend a scheduled online engagement on Tuesday because she is still suffering from mild cold-like symptoms after testing positive for Covid-19.

And Buckingham Palace announced on Sunday that tests had confirmed that the 95-year-old queen was infected with Covid-19, but she is expected to continue to carry out light duties, indicating that the world's oldest and longest-reigning kings do not suffer from serious symptoms.

The palace said that it sent a telegram of condolence to Brazil on Monday, saying that it was very saddened by the recent deadly floods in the country, and that it was planning to follow up on other virtual diplomatic meetings scheduled with foreign ambassadors.

She will now decide sooner whether to proceed with more engagements this week such as her weekly conversation with Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday.

Concerns for the Queen's health increased after she was diagnosed with Covid, two weeks after the celebration of the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne of the United Kingdom.
