"February 15 will go down in history as the day when Western propaganda failed."

The words are Maria Zakharovas, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, in connection with Russia's claim that they plan to withdraw certain forces from the Ukrainian border.

Zakharova refers to the US flow of information about an imminent Russian attack, which she and Russian authorities claim is false.

Researcher: Part of the US strategy

But according to Jan Hallenberg, US expert and research leader at UI, the US sees the development as a success for the country's new security policy strategy.

- The United States is acting as they do because they believe that 2014 was a mistake.

They had a lot of intelligence information that the Russians would do something in Ukraine and in the Crimea, but very little went out in public, he says.

- I think the Americans will be very happy if they see that the Russians withdraw their troops.

There are certainly a number of reasons for this, but Americans will say that one of them is their strong and persistent information.

Jan Hallenberg does not believe that the development will significantly affect the reputation of the United States.

- I think that the information war affected the Russian actions.

The reputation of the Russians is not very high, and in this case significantly lower than that of the United States.
