current Public Official Election Act requires that the presidential election polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.



The ruling and opposition parties have established a separate rule here, and agreed to extend the operation of polling stations so that those diagnosed with infectious diseases such as corona and quarantined can separately vote on-site from 6 pm to 9 pm.



Due to the spread of Omicron, it is expected that as many as 500,000 people will be confirmed after the early voting days on the 4th and 5th of next month have passed, but this is a measure in response to concerns that they have no way to vote.



A plan is also being promoted to extend the application period for 'residence voting', where you vote at home by mail, and to apply online.



On the 4th and 5th of the following month, which is the early voting day, plans to install additional advanced polling stations in infectious disease management facilities and quarantine facilities such as hospitals and community treatment centers are also being considered.



The political parties quickly came up with a solution as the ruling and opposition parties agreed that raising the voter turnout was mutually beneficial.



The ruling and opposition parties will hold a special committee on political reform today (10th) and plan to handle the amendment to the election law based on the agreement.



If the bill is passed at the plenary session of the National Assembly to be held early next week, the plan is to take effect from this election.
