In Canada, things are jamming on the vaccination highway.

For several days, truckers have been contesting the vaccination obligation linked to the coronavirus pandemic to cross the border between Canada and the United States.

Organizing into convoys, they converged on Ottawa, sometimes blocking highways.

Between false record in the

News of the day

Despite the blockade of the center of the federal capital Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refuses to send the army.

"There is no question for the moment of sending the army", he indicated at a press conference on Thursday evening, adding that it was necessary to be "very, very careful before deploying the army when Canadian citizens are involved”.

On Wednesday the Ottawa police had hinted that a call to the army might be necessary to put an end to the movement, some trucks having been parked in front of the federal parliament since Saturday.

“The police forces must do their job,” explains Justin Trudeau, adding that no request has yet been made to the federal authorities.

The Prime Minister especially put pressure on the demonstrators, believing that they “disturb and harass the inhabitants” of Ottawa and that they should “go home”.

But similar demonstrations are organized in Toronto and Quebec City.

The origin of the movement

It all started in the west of the country, with a few dozen truckers who organized themselves into convoys to rally Vancouver to Ottawa.

Their objective: to demonstrate against the vaccination obligation put in place in mid-January by Canada and the United States to be able to cross the border.

After punctual blockages and having received the support of Elon Musk, the convoy, which had grown in the meantime, arrived in Ottawa on January 29.

But other demands were quickly added to this movement.

“This is all for freedom, not just for truckers.

We must have a choice!

We don't have to get vaccinated to be able to work,” says Stephen Penderness, 28, an unvaccinated truck driver from Ontario.

“I want all this to stop, all this health drift.

The measures are now unjustified,” said Philippe Castonguay, 31-year-old entrepreneur.

In the demonstrations that now accompany the "freedom convoys", the call for the resignation of Justin Trudeau comes back with force.

The trend of the day

Very popular on social networks, the movement is emulated.

On Facebook, a group "the freedom convoy" was created on January 26, bringing together antivax and opponents of the vaccine pass.

But here too, the claims go beyond the health framework, with themes dear to “yellow vests”: “As a reminder, diesel also broke records (1.69 euros).

We have to fight for that too, ”claims one of the members.

The group, with a map in hand, intends to coordinate a climb to Paris on the weekend of February 12 and 13, to stick to the traditional anti-pass demonstrations, before going to demonstrate in Brussels on the 14th. A conversation on Telegram also was created to organize actions and rally demonstrators from other European countries.

But the strategy remains vague, and the Belgian police,
