Convictions linked to urban rodeos have increased by 1,400% since 2018 in France.

For 2021 alone, convictions have increased by nearly 40%, the Chancellery said on Tuesday.

"To these everyday incivilities, we respond with everyday justice," said Eric Dupond-Moretti.

“The results met our expectations.

The Keeper of the Seals was then traveling to Besançon (Doubs) to take stock of the law of August 3, 2018 which created a specific offense on urban rodeos.

Many vehicles seized

In 2021, nearly 1,400 convictions were pronounced for acts of motorized rodeos.

The 2018 law allows rodeo perpetrators to be sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros.

It also allows the seizure of motorized vehicles used by offenders.

According to the Chancellery, 127 disposals of vehicles for the benefit of the State took place between December 1, 2020 and December 1, 2021. In Besançon, the public prosecutor signed two agreements with a high school for automotive trades and a training center for apprentices, to assign them the vehicles seized free of charge.

"We have in our premises heaps of treasures from crime that we can use in a virtuous way", commented Eric Dupond-Moretti.

“We are not in the blah-blah, it is called justice, and perhaps even local justice.
