The United Nations has 17 goals for more sustainability by 2030. One of these is that everyone should have access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy.

The EU tracks progress towards the energy sustainability goal using seven indicators. Sweden, Denmark and Estonia are closest to the target (Bulgaria is furthest away) The single line in the graph that was still well above the others at the beginning of the 1900s and has now caught up is Malta: the Mediterranean country has improved the most.
