The appearance of several

thousand dead fish

in the Fuengirola river, in the Malaga town of the same name, has caused alarm among the residents and has put the local authorities on alert, who have notified the Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard (Seprona) for its investigation.

So far it is unknown what caused the death of the animals, but the water has

dense layers of dark foam

and rings of different color and texture.

The operators of FCC, a company that provides cleaning services for this City Council, have been working piecework since the beginning of the week to remove the inert fish and, as explained to Efe by the delegate for the Prevention of Occupational Risks of the same,

Cayetano Valle Gómez,

until at the moment four or five tons of dead specimens have been removed.

The removal work of the different aquatic species that have appeared lifeless, which will also continue throughout the weekend, are being carried out manually from the shore with the help of nets or from inside the riverbed with a pedal boat that They have provided them from the consistory.

All this, between the

strong and unpleasant smell

of decomposing fish and the concerned gaze of neighbors, passers-by and tourists, such as that of the Dutch couple Gerard and Zoya Gaarlant or the Sevillians Emilio Mendoza and Trini Rodríguez, who agree that "it is a shame "and that also gives a very" bad impression. "
