Recently, a convoy of Burkina Faso merchants was attacked by militants in the northern province of Rolum, killing 41 people, including a leader of the local militia who provided protection for the caravan.

The Burkina Faso government strongly condemned this "barbaric" attack and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

No organization or individual currently claims to have caused this attack.

Since 2015, Burkina Faso has seen frequent attacks and the security situation is grim.

On November 14 this year, a military police unit was attacked by unidentified militants in Soum province in the Sahel region in the north of the country, killing 49 military police and 4 civilians.
