British Prime Minister Boris Johnson

The Conservative Party, led by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, suffered a shock defeat in the parliamentary by-election held in the 'garden'.

According to British media reports, in the by-election for the local House of Representatives held in North Shropshire in central England yesterday, Liberal Democratic Party candidate Helen Morgan won 18,000 votes, defeating Conservative Party candidate Neil Shastri-Hurst by 6,000 votes.

The Conservative Party, which won overwhelmingly by a margin of 23,000 votes last year, only got 12,000 votes in this election.

"Tonight, the people of North Shropshire represent the citizens of England. 'Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the party is over,'" said Morgan, Liberal Democrat, in his speech.

The by-election was held after former House of Representatives Owen Patterson, who held the constituency for 15 years since 1997, resigned after being accused of violating lobbying regulations.

This area has been a vegetable garden where the Conservative Party has been elected since the days of its predecessor, the Tory Party, except for only two years out of 189 years.

Prime Minister Johnson, a member of the Conservative Party, is in a political crisis as suspicions spread that he held a Christmas party in the prime minister's office in mid-December last year, during lockdown due to the spread of Corona 19.
