The Bundestag met on Thursday for the first session after the start of the new traffic light government.

One of the items on the agenda was the appointment of the Greens' Vice-President: Since Claudia Roth is taking over the office of Minister of State for Culture, the previous parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt was elected to the deputy post.

The election of the Green politician, who had previously held this office, had previously been considered certain.

For the AfD, the MP Michael Kaufmann stood again as the vice-presidential candidate, who had failed in the first ballot at the end of October.

Again he was not elected, he only received 94 yes-votes.

In the first reading, the Bundestag also wanted to debate the draft law introduced by the traffic light parliamentary groups to change all-day funding.

This is about longer terms for the funds earmarked for expansion.

Another topic is the Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF), which is to be maintained until mid-2022.

It was introduced at the beginning of the Corona crisis to save distressed companies.
