“We share the indignation of the Latvian public in connection with the next act of vandalism that took place on December 1 against the monument to the soldiers who liberated Riga and Latvia from fascism, on the slabs of which an inscription of unacceptable content was painted,” the Russian Embassy in Latvia said in a Facebook post.

The diplomatic mission noted that "such hooligan antics have recently acquired a systemic character in Latvia."

“We strongly urge the Latvian authorities to take effective measures to find and prosecute all those responsible for the desecration of the monument, eliminate the consequences of this act and prevent similar actions in the future,” the embassy added.

Earlier, in Ussuriysk, a case was opened on the fact of the desecration of the Eternal Flame.
