Faced with the growing threat of the fifth wave of Covid-19, what new measures will the government announce?

The Minister of Health Olivier Véran is holding a press conference on this subject Thursday at 12:30 pm.

Some of these measures are already known.

The government is due to announce today the measures taken during the health defense council on Wednesday to contain the fifth wave of Covid-19 in France.

Some information has already filtered.

We know in particular that access to the booster dose will be extended to the entire population.

It can be performed five months after the last injection, and no longer six months as it is today.

Note, the health pass will be deactivated seven months after receiving the last dose.

Other measures: the validity of PCR tests will be reduced to 24 hours and the wearing of a mask will again be compulsory in establishments open to the public.

Finally, with regard to schools, classes will no longer be systematically closed as soon as a student tests positive.

Now, when a case is declared, the other students will be tested immediately.

Those who present a negative test will be able to return directly to class.

Avoid curfews and confinement

The goal for the government is to absolutely avoid curfews and other confinements, already back in some neighboring countries.

The idea is therefore to accelerate the schedule of the booster dose, to "save the end of year celebrations and get through the winter" according to information from the political service of Europe 1. The Élysée also knows that the The subject is particularly sensitive, including politically, five months before the presidential election.
