The numbers speak for themselves: A functioning speed control at Elzer Berg on Autobahn 3 from Cologne in the direction of Frankfurt saves lives. Between 1963 and 1972 alone, 2517 traffic accidents occurred here, and 60 people died. In 1970 the three-lane expansion of the A3 at Elzer Berg was completed, two years later there were sign gantries with the speed limit, and in 1973 the first "radar bridges" were put into operation. In the ten years that followed, up to 1982, only 381 accidents occurred.

The deterrent and disciplinary effect was immediately visible.

And the effect of the famous Elzer Berg continued: most recently, i.e. in the period from 2011 to 2020, exactly 600 traffic accidents were recorded, two of which were fatal.

These numbers must also be put in relation to the sharp increase in the number of vehicles and at the same time, the typical construction site accidents must be factored out.

This makes the continued positive effect of speed monitoring clear.

A fairly freshly revised catalog of fines

So if at any point it is not about ripping off drivers, then it is certainly on Elzer Berg just before Limburg. But the speed limits at the points where they exist are also extremely useful - there is some arguing about whether a route like the one between Marburg and Korbach has to be crammed with surveillance cameras, as has been the case there for several years . But that is a completely different topic.

Either way, it should be remembered that the inauguration of the new bridge on Elzer Berg is accompanied by a catalog of fines that has been recently revised.

If you drive 16 to 20 kilometers an hour too fast outside of built-up areas, you now have to pay 60 instead of the previous 30 euros if you are caught.

And the faster it gets, the more expensive it gets.

As before, there are points in Flensburg from a limit of 21 kilometers per hour above the maximum speed.

Mindfulness is worthwhile, for your own wallet, but even more so for the safety of third parties and for your own health.

This applies to the Elzer Berg, but also between Marburg and Korbach and on all other roads.

Therefore, there is definitely reason to celebrate with the police about the inauguration of the new sign gantry.

Renewed recklessness could already be observed on Elzer Berg.
