The infection statistics come from the Statens Serum Institut, Denmark's equivalent to the Swedish Public Health Agency, and a comparison made by TV2 shows that the infection rate has exceeded the corresponding figures in the country in 2020 every day except one in October 2021.

And now Danish experts are raising their voices because they need to tackle the growing infection.

- We can cope with minor interventions, if we get started immediately, says Viggo Andreasen, epidemiologist at the University of Roskilde to TV2.

- We are at a stage where the epidemic is developing in the wrong direction, says Eskild Petersen, professor emeritus of infectious diseases at the University of Aarhus.

200 in hospital

According to the latest figures, 200 people with covid are cared for in hospitals in Denmark, 23 of these in the intensive care unit (IVA).

In Sweden, with almost twice as large a population, the corresponding figure is 227, of which 25 of these are cared for in IVA.
