Dengue fever is rapidly spreading in Central and South America. The number of infected people is expected to be the highest ever.

90% of the cases are concentrated in three South American countries: Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. The United States' autonomous territory of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean declared a state of public health emergency on the 25th of this month. The virus is spreading in countries and regions in Central America and the Caribbean, where infections are usually not seen at this time of year.
