It is noted that NATO fighters patrolling the Baltic region will be able to use the airfield as an alternate landing site.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, after the first day of the meeting of the defense ministers of the NATO countries, announced an increase in NATO's presence in the Black Sea region.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that NATO, amid calls to contain Russia, is pulling forces to the country's borders.
