Matilda Norén Fällman testifies to a tough situation in elderly care with many new inexperienced substitutes.

When staff have to go home from work because they have fallen ill, more and more substitutes are being picked up to take care of the elderly.

- There will be many new people who will work with us in healthcare.

They should quickly get better information on how to work, clean instructions to minimize the risk.

Some are not even vaccinated themselves, says Matilda Norén Fällman, who has a political commitment within the Left Party but no positions of trust.

- It has been a year and a half, there should have been a risk analysis before the restrictions are released in September and that the number of employees should have increased before a possible new spread of infection within the municipality's nursing homes.

Mass testing introduced

At the end of last week, Umeå municipality announced that it would reintroduce mass testing for employees in elderly care to reduce the risk of further spread of infection, after 17 care employees and 18 residents had been infected with covid-19 at mainly two homes.

- We have decided on measures together with care hygiene, that it has been a long time since it is a fairly large device to screen all staff, but we hope to be able to introduce measures this week, answers Charlotta Lindqvist Barsk who is operations manager at care and nursing homes at Umeå municipality and short-term.
